It is native to western India or Africa, the Middle East and Africa. In summer vegetables introduced in the late 1980s in Japan are characterized by stickiness and are rich in carotene and calcium. It is also a raw material for green juice.

One of the few summer leafy vegetables is appreciated on the table. It can be enjoyed with broilers, soups, stir-fries, and kakiage. When mixed with fruits and put on a blender, fresh raw green juice is dried in the sun and put on a mixer to make powdered green juice.
